Headlines are so important for many reasons whether that be in attracting people's attention or being optimized to be acceptable to SEO bots for higher web traffic and engagement.

There were many elements that this article uses in order to gain the attention of readers, and I will go in-depth as to why I was led to click on this article.

Plain language: The headline is written in a way that flows while being read and is very digestible as it does not use hard-to-comprehend words or try to be clever. We use plain language when we are creating content that can widely be understood by a general and targeted audience.

We know that in our class discussions, plain language allows readers to fully understand what they need to know without being confused Plain Language Writing (W25) slide 18.  With plain language, readers can determine the objective that has been set out by the headline

Number use: The use of numbers is also a big factor as we have discussed and gone over many times that numbers add structure and organization to text and give it more readability. Numbers have been described in our class as “brain candy” as it is a different process than reading text and when combined it flows very well and gathers your attention.

FOMO: The headline uses fear of missing out by using words that say “the average Adult” which could cause people to become curious about what the average adult knows and if they know it well. This is relevant mainly to adults who do not want to be left out but I'm sure it seems intriguing to some youth if they can get the answers right. As discussed in class we know that using the psychological biases of FOMO raises curiosity as humans do not like being left out, making them highly interested.

Relevancy: This article is relevant to adults directly and might play to their love of food or their nostalgia for their younger days. Humans are emotional and love and cherish their old memories by making this headline well-tailored to that segment.

Promise: The numbers and context of the text promise something very specific that you will get by reading the article. The main topic is about 8 movie foods from the 80s meaning that you are getting very specific information about what you are going to receive.

CTA: The end of the headline contains a call to action in the form of a question which got my attention. It asks the readers how many dishes they know which got me intrigued to figure out what I do know.

I have a love of food and media entertainment so this article called to me, as something I could enjoy reading.
